What do you write?

Features and shorts, mostly character-driven drama. I've got two completed features, several short screenplays, and a collection of short fiction and personal essays. I'm working on another feature now.

Where did your interest in storytelling come from?

I was raised primarily by my grandmother, Mary Emily Kuehn Hanson. She was quite the storyteller, and I think got my love of a good story from her.

What kind of stories interest you?

Ones where people change in the face of life on life’s terms.

Where do your stories come from?

My personal experience and observation of the world around me.

What have you written?

Two features: Bond Story and Winter Solstice, and three shorts: A Day Off, Newsboy Special, and Astroworld. And 18 short stories.

Why screenwriting?

I love movies, and my writing is quite visual. It lends itself naturally to the screen.

Where are you from?

I'm a third-generation Houstonian. I grew up there, lived for many years in Austin, then the Detroit area, and now Brooklyn.

What did you do before you became a writer?

I've been writing for a long time, but along the way I've spent many years in the tech world as a software instructor and consultant. Before that I sold bonds in the '80s and worked in real estate.

What are you working on now?

I'm working on a new feature called Restoration and adapting more of my short stories for the screen.

Can I read your work?

Absolutely. My short stories and reflections are on objects-in-mirror, and my screenplays are available upon request.
